Tips & Tricks to Maximise the Efficiency of Your Car’s AC

  • If you park in the shade, you will never have to worry about the sun heating up your car while you are away. If the sun heats up your automobile, you'll have to wait until it cools off before getting in or driving.

  • Can’t find sufficient shade to park your car? Park the car with the windows open a little bit so that fresh air can circulate inside your car and there won't be accumulated heat build-up while you’re gone.

  • Use the air circulation mode once the cabin reaches the optimum temperature to reduce strain on the compressor and not pull in outside air. However, try turning off the circulation function if you have people in the back seat. This pushes air from the front of the cabin back through the system, so although the temperature in front seats remains cool, the air in the back can get stuffy and heated.

  • Avoid the impulse to put on the air conditioner at full blast as soon as you start the car in order to preserve the quality of your air conditioner. If you have an automatic air conditioner, it will begin in low mode and gradually increase its speed. In the case of manual air conditioners, try adjusting the fan and temperature controls in the same way.

  • When you get to your destination, turn off the air conditioning before turning off the engine. In the meantime, keep the fan going in order to dry off the evaporator. This means that moss will not develop or germs will not accumulate there, and you will be saved from unpleasant odours and potential respiratory ailments.

  • Do not neglect to follow your car's periodic routine maintenance, when the interior air filter should be serviced. Also, the coolant in the system will need to be replenished at some point. Ensure you get this done at a licensed AC repair garage that only utilises original parts for your vehicle.

  • Do not precool your automobile, as many new vehicles have that feature. When you are driving, your car's air conditioning works significantly better since the faster the engine turns, the more the AC compressor runs, allowing the system to cool more effectively. Do not waste time or gas by leaving your car idle before exiting.
